The eV8 System

How It's Done

Primary Drive
Electric Motor
01
eV8 Electric Motor

High-torque synchronous motor contained within the eV8 shell. Dimensioned to match the SBC V8 envelope precisely. Motor, inverter, and controller are all internal.

Thermal Management
Cooling System
02
eV8 cooling system

The electric motor and controller are cooled by the existing cooling system. The original radiator, hoses, and water pump are utilized to keep the system at optimal operating temperature. No need to buy additional parts to keep things cool.

Vehicle Interface
Control Systems
03
eV8 control systems

Interfaces with the existing 12V electrical system. No additional DC converters or relay networks. The vehicle's factory wiring remains unmodified.

Bonus
Customization
04
Customization Example

With eV8, you can now run your favorite fuel induction system without the problems. A blower is no issue. Want 3, 2-barrels? That's now reality— Finicky carburetor adjustments are a thing of the past

Engineered for Preservation
01

Original Motor Mounts

The eV8 bolts directly into position using factory mount points — no fabrication, no modification to the chassis.

02

Stock Bell Housing

The original bell housing connects the eV8 to your existing transmission. Manual shifts remain fully operational.

03

Accessory Retention

Existing power steering, air conditioning, and alternator bolt to the eV8 in their stock positions — no additional pumps or DC converters required.

04

Fully Reversible

No permanent modifications have been made to the vehicle. The original engine can be reinstalled over a weekend.

About eV8 Motors

Built by Collectors,
for Collectors

eV8 Motors started out of our love for classic cars and hot rods, and from our desire to keep them on the road forever.

We love what these cars represent, and they take us back to a time when "American made" was the envy of the world. We love these cars, but we aren't thrilled with the headaches that come with keeping them alive.

As classic car owners ourselves, we want to get in and drive, not worry about whether a car will start, overheat in traffic, or leave us stranded. And so, we came up with a solution that would keep classics living forever while respecting their heritage.

Our eV8 patent is the combination of the latest technology with classic form and function to create something truly novel: an electric V8 that preserves everything a collector cares about while eliminating everything they don't.

Our Three Requirements

Non-Destructive

No modifications to the vehicle's original structure, chassis, or body. Just like any other engine swap.

Serviceable

All components accessible with standard tooling. No proprietary service requirements or forced obsolescence.

Reversible

Original combustion engine can be reinstalled. The eV8 conversion imposes no permanent modifications.

Frequently Asked

Questions & Answers

Will anyone be able to tell the engine has been replaced? +
No. The eV8 unit is dimensioned to fill the original engine bay in the same visual envelope as a small block Chevy V8. The motor mounts and bell housing are original. Belt-driven accessories remain in stock positions. The appearance of the engine bay is unchanged.
Can I still shift gears manually? +
Yes. The transmission, driveline, and rear differential are fully utilized. The eV8 interfaces directly with your existing gearbox — you shift exactly as you did before.
What mechanical skill level is required for the conversion? +
Basic mechanical skill — the equivalent of an engine swap. The eV8 conversion does not require electrical engineering, custom fabrication, or advanced wiring work. The vehicle's existing 12V electrical system remains intact and is not altered. No DC converters or supplemental electrical components are required.
Can I use my own battery pack? +
Absolutely. The eV8 SBC is an engine kit and does not come with the battery pack. Because every car has different space allowances, you can pick out the perfect battery pack to fit or your needs.
When can I order this, and which vehicles are currently supported? +
The eV8 SBC will be releasing soon! The current eV8 unit is engineered for vehicles equipped with a small block Chevy V8 configuration — one of the most common drivetrains in American classic car production. Support for additional engine types is in development. Contact us to discuss your specific vehicle.
Does it affect vehicle value or collectibility? +
The eV8 conversion is entirely reversible and leaves no permanent trace on the vehicle. From a collector perspective, the car remains documentably original. For concours or show purposes, the engine bay appearance is unchanged.
What does the eV8 SBC conversion kit come with? +
We will provide you with our own modified casting of the SBC long block (Including heads). The motor and all internal electronics will come with the kit, along with a custom flange and shafts.
